Drinking vessel proffered; grime-clogged nails
Styrofoam rigid, white, static
Stark against the dinginess of the stairwell
Matted head, stooped, unseeing, bowed low
In shame, disgust, distaste? No one knows

A penny, small and brown, sits alone
Like its owner, isolated, hopeless
