The Lark

On The Bridge

A poem

Here, where the ghosts of burning witches are still hunted,
one thousand years ago, when the church was built,
the river was not consulted. No one asked her if she wanted
a stone monument to an intangible god standing over her,
on sacred land which she herself had sculpted.
