Who wants to deal with grieving
Who wants to nail themselves
to that emotional cross
After all
grieving has such a sense of finality
like heart surgery
having to surrender your love-filled heart
for a nail-filled replacement part
No one wants to be abandoned
naked and helpless
in the middle lane
of life's multi-lane highway
reciting affirmations of survival
If you are lucky
those having walked that road before you
are now extending a hand to support you
before the emotional police returns
to arrest you
Who wants to deal with grieving
Who wants to be the container
in the storm of endless rain
hopelessly trying to separate
the drowning from the pain
sadly in the end
what have we gained
We all want to live in the truth
The same truth we've long been told
will set us free
But the truth
at times
pretends to be
only to take decades for the blind to see
We've been existing in a livable lie
with each passing day
just one more question added
to the list of whys
