Poetry For My Ducklings
A poem
Buster, Buddy, and Peeps — the chicks I did not expect to inherit. I’ve had pet hamsters, cats, a dog, lovebirds, parakeets, bunnies, turtles, koi, frogs, stick bugs, lizards, and a tortoise — but ducks? My spouse seems to think I have enough time to care for these headstrong little characters. Enough time? Never enough. Enough love in my heart? Well, duh.
Floppy, feathered,
Miniature fowl
(“I’ve fallen in love again!”
I growl).
Slumbering
Across my confined arm,
Soft and stinky,
They can do no harm —
Save their acetic, constant,
Unlimited crap…
(Apparently, sphincter-lessness
Warrants unlimited naps).
