A short story about life’s major turning points

It was 12:22 pm in the heart of New York City, and Times Square pulsed with hungry people. They were the reluctant blood cells fuelling the city that never slept. Their swelling hunger thickened the roads with clotted traffic. Hot humans unwillingly cook away within metal boxes, eager to be out there to flow freely with the herd.
