Thawing Lake, by the author, Photo credit Jane Harris

I thought I was powerless to stand against the wave of hate crashing over me
until I threw my pebble in the river
and watched ripples spread like waves upon the sea

Then I knew that though
I won’t change the world alone, or move the undercurrent with one stone
I’ll change the way the water flows around the bridge
with every rock I throw
