Six Feet Down and From the Treetops

A sonnet

These fish are looking up from the bottom
enjoying the earth’s warmth and each other
at this the very end of the autumn
trees sleep and koi protect one another.

Each occupies a stratum’s place then stops
to rise or fall further with the season.
Some six feet down and from the tree top…
