I went to the dentist for the first time in a decade
confessing only to three years
and the dentist marveled at my teeth
for not looking at all as if it had been so long.
I can lie to my dentist
but the rest of my genealogical tree branches
whisper about an early heart attack
so someone at my funeral parlor please
stick a finger in my lips and pinch a cheek up
to show off my dental vigor
to all the ceremony attendees.
