God Bless America
with its guns,
book bans
and Independence Day
Star Spangled shooters
ready to express its
red, white, and blue
patriotic freedom
from California to the New York island
and Texax, Philadelphia, and Maryland, in between.

What is this bloodied ribbon highway
this endless darkened skyway of
2nd Amendment dust clouds rolling
over all the ideals we hold so dear?

Kill the child.
Protect the fetus.
Burn the book.
Protect the President.
Protect the gun.

Broken families
gather up your children,
your nannies, your edibles
for a weekend of Hot Dogs,
Presidential Rallies,
Fireworks, shootings,
Cotton Candy, American flags flying
over well-fed-pampered-poodles
prancing down Main Street
the high school band
belting out sour notes of
You’re a Grand Old Flag
the trumpets and trombones fighting
with the saxophones and clarinets
to stay in key, the Color Guard proudly
walking side by side…
