The Birthday That Doesn’t Feel Like a Birthday

And the cake that doesn’t taste like a cake

The birthday that doesn’t feel like a birthday
Now playing: the repeated words song
My phone is cheering,
the bubble texts are speaking
My friends are coming,
the balloons are dancing
But I am spacing out.

The cake that doesn’t taste like a cake
It tastes like a burden
Before I blow out the candles,
the candles are staring at me
with threatening eyes of flames,
to make sure that after I blow their flames
I have to make the wishes come true.

23 that turns out to be just a number
Twenty three is just two words
Birth date is just the date I was born
Birthday wishes are the same as the prayer I pray every morning
This birthday doesn’t feel like a birthday
This cake doesn’t taste like a cake
This day is just a day
This cake is just a cake.
