The Chair is a story I wrote many years ago but never got published except for on my blog. It will be published in The Lark Publication as a flash fiction series.

Synopsis

The story is set in a fictional New York City. The Chair is an invention designed by a scientist who believes he can transport peoples’ minds to a different place using a make-believe fantasy of their choice. The Chair can be used to find people, places, and even things that have gone missing.

Lucy Bridges, a young scientist from London, starts her new job as the assistant scientist to the eccentric Doctor Darrel Simmons. She becomes intrigued by his work. In particular, she is excited when Dr. Simmons asks her to experiment with his latest invention — The Chair. She doesn’t realize what she is getting herself into until things become weird.

Prologue

I sat in a mechanical, futuristic invention known as The chair. Peter stood next to me peering down at me. I touched my jacket pocket and he noticed.

“I know you’ve got something, Lucy. I want to know where it came from but don’t take it out. Don’t touch it.”
