Thud

A poem of thirst

Most of the time
You will come
Weary with thirst
To draw
And find the well
Full
Of clear cool
Water

Pure
Life-giving
Source
Abundant
Freely flowing
To nourish your being
Body and soul

But
There will be days
And many evil nights
When
You will throw
In faith
Your hoping vessel
And find
The only thing offered
To quench
Your suffering
Heart and mind
Is the empty
Futile
Echoing
Doom
Of your forsaken bucket
Striking the barren Earth
With a grim
Hollow
Thud
