We Said Goodbye

But we never knew why

We said goodbye, but we never knew why.
The stillness looms large, like a rip in the heavens.
Your touch, an ethereal warmth on my knees;
your laughter, a tune lost in the breeze.

We encased ourselves in clouds,
murmured dreams into the night,
and encased two souls in a sea of starlight.
However, kingdoms fall, and stars disappear.
Leaving love echoes as the day draws to an end.

Were we unable to weather the storm
or sand that is slowly eroding?
Did our foundation crack from unsaid fears?
Or did the flame of love just flicker and go out?

I trace your name across a hazy window pane.
A passing thought, carried away by the rain.
There’s a ghost of your perfume in the air.
A strange remembrance of our past together.

When I close my eyes, your smile appears in the sunlight.
Hear yourself singing, like a well-run race.
However, the music has ended, and the curtain is down.
And I’m left with unspoken affection and an uncalled vow amid the silence.

We bid each other farewell, but the question remains.
A wound that refuses to heal, a bittersweet agony.
Even when our paths split and our memories endure,
our former love still whispers in the rain.
