If I do get out the other end
Know that you got me through it.
You and you and you and you.
Until I had the strength to go through too.

You stayed by me.
You listened.
You asked me how I was
And were ready for a truthful answer.

You stroked my hair.
You wiped my cheeks.
When you must not have known yourself
If I would ever survive.

The human condition can’t be doomed.
We can’t all be evil
If we possess this ability to love unconditionally
Knowing we’re getting nothing in return.

We keep going because of love.
Love makes us help, protect, wait.
Love gives us both strength and faith
That things will get better again one day.

***In slight contrast to the melancholy of this poem, I have a (slightly) dark comedy for kids (with a layer for parents) out which is currently free for a limited time on Amazon Kindle Unlimited. Do read and review – helps a lot! Thanks in advance.
