A Follow Up Email That Works 70% of the Time

Back when I did prospecting for Dyn, I used to do this one trick that would yield as high as 70% response rate (depending on the campaign).

Here’s a quick video of me explaining how:

If you prefer to read instead of watch, this was a killer tactic that anyone can do as long as they have a smartphone or digital camera.

First, you are going to want to reply back to your last sent prospecting email, and write an email like this:

Use an old email you sent so they have a reference point to your last email.

Then attach an email showing you looking sad. Make sure you name the image something vague.

An image I’ve used recently attached to drive responses to follow up.

Hit send, and you should see more responses than a typical “I’m just following up with you” email.

Here are two other examples:

This was taken years ago by my buddy at Facebook, Scott Smith. I’d attach this and say “I’m devastated I haven’t heard back.” People usually laugh and end up wanting to talk because there is personality in the email, and it’s different than typical thoughtless follow up emails.

Other sales reps have replicated this technique and had success. Sometimes it can work great to pitch together and work with someone else on your team.

For example, John D’Amato, a sales legend and now head guy for partnerships at Dyn and I used to work together prospecting partners. John used a technique like this after a prospect decided they were going to move elsewhere. We sent this picture below:

I’d wrote in the email:“Hey Guys, Totally understand where you are coming from. John’s taking the news kind of rough (see attached), but it’s ok. Let us know in the future if we can work together, and we’ll be happy to help”

A few hours later, they reconsidered and John closed the deal. They realized they’d have more fun working with John, and the tension in the relationship was relieved.

If you want to try this technique out on new fresh leads, click here and fill out the form, and we’ll set you up with 100 free handpicked leads on LeadIQ to test this out.

Always remember to make your first email great as well with these leads, so the follow up matches the tone and consistency.
