The University of Santo Tomas — Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (UST-JPIA) hosted the annual Charlwin Lee Cup on May 14, 2023, the honorary scholastic competition named after Charter President Charlwin “Aljon” Pua Lee of the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants — National Capital Region (NFJPIA-NCR). The event was held face-to-face in the Student Union Building at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman.

On its 18th edition, the CL Cup witnessed a fiercely contested elimination round of 33 participants, in which 15 finalists from the University of Caloocan City (UCC), the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Manila, the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, the Quezon City University, and the University of the East (UE) Caloocan emerged.

The closing ceremony punctuated the event with the announcement of the winners. Hanielyn Belaro (UCC) and Jhonne Ivan Dela Cruz (UE Caloocan) were awarded Senior Master and Junior Master, respectively, while Celine Mae Javier of PUP Manila reigned as Grandmaster. Marie Dipolog and John Paul Fadrilan, both from PUP Manila, followed as fourth and fifth placers.

The recipients of special awards were as follows: Preeminent Senior Quizzer — Hanielyn Belaro (UCC), Preeminent Junior Quizzer — Celine Joy Javier (PUP Manila), Preeminent Sophomore Quizzer — Paul Robert Adel (UE Caloocan), Preeminent Freshman Quizzer — Fredilyn Autor (PUP Manila).

UST-JPIA Vice President for External Affairs and CL Cup project coordinator, Michaela Torres, expressed her enthusiasm for the event’s success. She underscored the tremendous effort poured into ensuring that the CL Cup would become a fantastically rewarding experience for all participants.

“The organizers put in a lot of effort and thought para maging grand and special sa lahat ng quizzers ang event na ito, para maging sobrang memorable ang return ng CL Cup because we value your event experience,”said Torres.

Torres also expressed her optimism for the continued collaboration between NFJPIA-NCR, UST-JPIA, and UP JPIA.

The 18th CL Cup embraced the theme of espionage, which Torres likened to the whole point of the endeavor: clandestine agencies sending out their finest agents on a mission to retrieve “The Cup of All Cups.”

The Charlwin Lee Cup is a competitive avenue for JPIAns to demonstrate their accounting aptitude, serving as useful practice for the Licensure Examination for Certified Public Accountants. Through this, NFJPIA-NCR hopes to improve the quality of knowledge among qualifiers and spark the interest of many students.
