A gale of wind blows over the frozen lake, flipping the pages of the tome lying in the heart of the ethereal wonderland, a beam of light flashing from the cover in a mesmerizing haze, and its glory glowed its title: “NASCENTIA.” The icy landscape beckons and the graceful dance of the 18th Alfredo M. Velayo Cup is set to unfold on May 9, 2024, through Zoom Cloud Meetings. Moving along to the waltz of board exam courses, the choreography comprises questions that take the motions of a quiz bee. Come one, come all, showcase your prowess in accountancy, and widen your horizon. Once you fall down the ice, would you steer into the skid of resonance or leave the precipice of distinction?

UST-AMV remains the cream of the crop, with its namesake leaving an indelible impact on the accounting world. “Nascentia: Mirage of the Savants” seeks to honor Mr. Alfredo M. Velayo and his contributions through the format of a quiz bee where the top ten teams from the elimination round will advance to the finals. In the final round, questions carry weighted values, with cash prizes awaiting the top three winners. Exciting power-ups such as Cygnet’s Chain, Enchanted Quill, Mirror Phantasm, Swan’s Gamble, and Cygnus Phantasmagoria await.

This extravaganza calls for delegates eager to broaden their perspectives in the field of accountancy. The golden gate welcomes all 3rd to 5th-year BS Accountancy and other accounting-related students who are bona fide members of JPIA across the nation. However, among the victors, only the first 20 will step forward to represent their local chapters. While slots are limited, participation promises honed skills, enhanced teamwork, networking opportunities, and a boost in confidence and professional value.

The AMV Cup has been a cornerstone of JPIA, being passed on from federation to federation in hopes of upholding academic excellence and competence to the next generation. However, due to the pandemic, it has since been held online. Initially set to be held onsite after five long years, but due to unforeseen circumstances, the spectacle will be held online. The pandemic, however, has already taught us that this does not limit the participants to foster a more significant interaction and embody the spirit of friendly competition and growth.

As the nights grow darker and the bells start to chime, remember the reason why you chose to take up accountancy in the first place. “Embrace every opportunity to challenge yourself that will help you grow as a student and a future professional in the future. Remember, joining competitions is not just about winning,” said Rochelle Nazarene Lanuza, the president of UST-JPIA and one of the project heads of this event, urging everyone to embrace the extracurricular as it would help with one’s academics.

At the stroke of midnight on the 9th of May, may you be filled with wonder and not with dread as your dull nighttime clothes transform into the uniforms that would bask in the glory of the stage. Strap on your skates and gracefully glide on the ice of the 18th AMV Cup like a swan majestically glissading through the pond. Look no further as the tome brings to life the spirit of strife; let the spirit of perseverance come alive, for time is fleeting — make every moment count.
