The Curse of The Blessed
By: Regina Mariel Quillo
Blessed be to you, oh youth
For your voice had sung in harmonies,
Your melodies spoken the wisest truths
And had given light to all of the living.
Blessed be to you, oh youth
Flying as high as the mightiest eagles,
Foreseeing the unreadable future,
Lifted voices for the unspoken,
And fed all those who lived in hunger.
But oh, the humanity of greed and pride
Plucked out your eyes,
Severed your wings,
Slit your throat,
And took your voice.
“Curse you, oh youth
For we’ll sing of vanity
Curse you, oh youth
For disobeying our intricate ‘laws’
We will live with the fire burning beneath our feet,
To lust over fame and authority among the feeble.”
For the world made of men,
And for the men;
Will continue to live within the darkness.
Those who strive for liberty and truth,
Shall be recognized by all of the living,
To ascend the highest peaks through their fiercest courage.
May you, oh youth, live to see a world,
A world where their truths have freed the shackles of wickedness.
