Apologists Without Apologies
“God uses different people for different times.”
In an interview aired on Fox News, Cavuto said many Republicans simply “can’t get over [Trump’s] personal behavior, the name-calling, the insults, all of that,” and asked Carson how Trump will “get over that hump.”
Unfortunately, not enough Republicans are repulsed, including Ben Carson.
Carson responded by telling Cavuto to “think about the Bible and King David.” “Most of those people, probably if they were alive back in those days, would say, ‘Oh, what a horrible guy.’ You know, the episode with Bathsheba, and some of the other things that he did,” referring to the adulterous affair the king had with the wife of one of his soldiers, Uriah the Hittite, after which he had Uriah killed. “God uses different people for different times.” Cavuto, apparently not believing his own ears, then asked Carson if he was truly equating Trump with King David, to which he said, “I don’t know about ‘King,’ but certainly he has some policies that are very worthwhile.”
“God uses different people for different times.”
What a crock of shit.
So it’s OK if you are God to cherry-pick that which some person does as your “good works,” even though the person is reprehensible? The heavenly puppet master “uses people,” even morally bankrupt people, in such a fashion that their repugnance and even crimes against humanity can be overlooked?
I repeat. What a crock of shit.
But this lines up perfectly with the notion that the all-powerful God creates the bunnies and the songbirds and the lilies-of-the-valley but not the murderous hurricanes and earthquakes. No human is without fault, but do you really think God looks the other way with someone who makes no effort to benefit anyone but himself?
And those acts that happen to benefit some citizens? In the words of Robert Penn Warren, “Dictators always give something for what they get.”
Ben Carson would have us believe that a vindictive narcissist is the chosen hand of God. Ignore his behavior, for God has selected him to be our king-like leader.
If you are correct, Ben, may God help us.
