I Changed Political Parties in 2020. Here Are Five Beliefs I Didn’t Change.
If we only focus on our differences, we lose the chance to bridge our divide.
Four years ago, I made a decision that would have shocked my younger self: I changed my political affiliation from Republican to Independent. Changing political parties wasn’t a decision that I made lightly, and I wrote about my decision at the time in this article:
Since 2020, I have not regretted my choice, but I’ve been sad to see the growing gap between conservatives and liberals. This election season, I am committed to looking for things we can agree on and finding ways to have productive conversations when we disagree.
While thinking about politics, I considered five beliefs of mine that have remained the same.
