A psychiatrist’s office somewhere in the Washington, D. C. area.

“Come in please and have a seat. Yes, the couch is fine if you’d prefer to lie down. And your name?”

“I’m General Public although some folks call me John Q. Public or even American Electorate.”

“And what brings you here today, Mr. Public?”

“Well, doc, I can’t put my finger on it. For years, I’ve been feeling great but this summer all of a sudden I started feeling really, really depressed.”

“And what happened?”

“I’m not sure. There are two political nominating conventions coming up but that doesn’t usually bother me. In fact, every four years, I kind of look forward to these conventions since both the Republicans and the Democrats choose a presidential candidate and typically I always like at least one of them, sometimes both.”

“And this year?”

“Maybe that’s it because they don’t even need conventions this time as the two nominees have already been effectively chosen and I can’t stand either guy.”

“What’s wrong with them?”

“Well one of them is a career politician with a lot of experience but he’s really old and can’t seem to get it together. And the other guy has no clue about…
