The United States of…Chaos?
Just a thought experiment.
Let’s take a dive down that rabbit hole, shall we? I promise, it won’t hurt.
Much.
So, fast forward to oh, say, January 6th, 2025. Over 70+ GOP officials in various swing States have refused to certify their states’ election results, and the courts in those states have refused to act fast enough to get any possible certifications to the Senate. Accordingly, the election gets thrown into the House. Since the election results didn’t get certified for enough House members to be installed to accord the democrats a majority, the Republicans declare themselves to be the winners, and they “elect” Trump.
Lawsuits ensue, and by January 21st, no rulings come forward to change things, so Trump gets sworn in. Project 2025 becomes a reality, and the United States starts to change, rapidly. The Federal government erupts into chaos as Trump closes agency after agency, fires hundreds of thousands of federal employees, and no courts dare to intervene, regardless of the Civil Service Act and its requirements making any of that illegal. I mean, since all of the folks who might indict anyone for breaking the law are either fired or working for Trump, who’s gonna object, right?
So, time goes on, and eventually, let’s say, the Southern Baptists get tired of the Evangelical White Nationalists calling them out for breaking the law about the new theocratic rules, and their leadership gets together in secret.
Plans get made, money changes hands, people move around, more money changes hands, more people get bribed, and after a bit, right in the middle of a Big Mac lunch, King Trump plants himself face down into his family sized french fries, dead as a doornail. A phone call or two, and a group of Southern Baptists show up at the White House, and their leader steps up in front of their pet reporters to announce to the nation that Trump is dead, long live the Southern Baptist king.
All those pesky Evangelicals in the new Department of Theocratic Nonsense (DTN) run for the hills before they get arrested and shot. So have the White House folks and half of the new Trump hires nationwide as soon as all that hits the airwaves.
Again, the federal government collapses into chaos.
Again, time goes on, new people get hired, vetted and allowed to report to work, and things settle down again. At least on the surface — let’s not talk about what the economy is doing, ok? This is about the government, not the Rich White Men and what THEY might be doing.

But while all that is settling down, more meetings are taking place, this time in Rome. Needless to say, the Vatican isn’t too delighted (to say the least) that they’re still having the devil’s own time (hey, don’t ask, ok?) getting the US to let their priests, bishops and cardinals out of those hot miserable concentration camps, and they ain’t grinnin’ about it.
Instead, more plans get made, money moves between accounts internationally, various people get on aircraft and slide into the US by paying bribes, and then again, even more money gets exchanged (hey, great time to be a banker, huh?), and a bit more time goes by.
Then, guns explode, people die, Washington DC hits the dirt (plenty of that around after all those feds got fired), and after a while and things settle, the news media is informed that the US is now under the control of the Vatican, in the person of Cardinal So-in-So.
Do I need to go on with another round of this?
I know it sounds ridiculous, but truly, since the SCOTUS has noted that the President has complete and utter immunity from prosecution, AND that anything he says to or with the DOJ is secret and cannot be used against him (and nothing he does as chief Executive is therefore strictly speaking, prosecutable and thus is now legal, therefore anyone who declares themselves to be President resultantly controls the folks who might prosecute them. Even if they actually broke the law getting there.
Who is going to prosecute them, and which judge is stupid enough to accept the case anyway?
Is THIS the United States you want? One in which the folks who successfully kill the head guy get to declare themselves to be the new Head Guy and therefore immune from being prosecuted for killing their way into the White House?
And while all of this is going down, who is minding the store? While the previous guy’s folks run for the hills, who is doing the jobs left behind? Who is running the military? Is that military truly concerned about outside threats, or has it been completely engulfed in the internal politics of who’s running the White House this week?
How are you going to know which Christian denomination is in charge this month? Evangelicals? Southern Baptists? Methodists? Catholics? Is your bible still good, or is it banned THIS week? How many of those different versions need you buy just to ensure you can pull out the right version if you get stopped by the religious cops? Or, what happens if you mistakenly show the wrong one — the one from last week you forgot to toss out?
And, hey, let’s not forget to think about the States, but yes, that’s a whole ‘nuther article, ain’t it?
Yes, it IS ridiculous, and it is because we have a Constitution that should — if we can protect it this November — keep any of that nonsense from happening at all. As I’ve been saying repeatedly, as have others, the damn Republicans NEVER think this shit through. If they create an authoritarian theocracy, in good time (and not that long, either), it's going to incur the same result that EVERY Authoritarian government always does.
Our democratic government has endured over two hundred forty years because no matter who is in charge this term, the other guys, if they play by the rules and try to put in place policies that help the American People, have a chance next time to get their turn at bat. They just need to have better ideas that more voters might like and agree with. In the past, if your policies weren't successful, you changed them — or your Party died, as the Whigs found to their sorrow. (and as the GOP is now learning to theirs.)
As a result, everyone — under the current system — has as a goal the protection of the government and its top elected positions, and the endurance of our Constitution. It’s worked for over two hundred years, but it is in danger now because ONE Party, lead by and ruled by big money donors, has decided that they want to rule it all, and damn the consequences. They cannot gain more voters, because the vast majority of sensible voters know and understand that their policies aren’t good for the country. So they cannot win elections without cheating. And since the so far legal cheating (gerrymandering) they’ve been up to isn’t working that well any more (and their chosen ethnic group — whites aren’t a majority that’s voting for them anymore), they’re going further.
But what they don’t see (because they NEVER think that far ahead) is that doing what Project 2025 is intended to do will not only destroy our democracy, but it will destroy our country as well. As an entity, as a united population, and as the world’s enlightened Promised Land, it. will. all. die.
And frankly, I sure as hell hope that by then, my own age will catch up to me and I’ll be dead too, because I really don’t want to live in that world.
And I’d rather not leave that world to my descendants.
