AMERICAN DUPES

They Said, “Give Us a King to Lead Us.”

And a King is just another dictator.

The differences between a king and a dictator are minimal. Kings speak of bloodlines, divine rights, and firstborn males. Dictators dispense with the folderol and exercise the same absolute power. The effect on the populace is the same.

The United States of America has no king or dictator, and has not had one for over 200 years. However, there is at least one citizen who would like to change that.

In a recent interview, Sean Hannity asked whether the presidential front-runner would use a second term to “abuse power, to break the law, to use the government to go after people.”

Shortly after, the multi-indicted former president stated, “I love this guy. He says, ‘You’re not going to be a dictator, are you?’ I said, ‘No, no, no. Other than Day One.’ We’re closing the border, and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling. After that, I’m not a dictator.”

It is not hard to imagine the other types of actions the dictator has in mind for Day One. Multiple get-out-of-jail-free pardons for insurrectionists, selling mineral rights to the national parks, launching targeted harassment via the IRS and Justice Department, etc. One day of dictatorship is far too many.

And where is the “Dictator for a Day” clause in the Constitution? Perhaps Mike Johnson, an endorser of the dictator and “Constitutional lawyer,” can explain.

Do we choose to take Mr. Truth-in-advertising at his word? Does anyone honestly think that one day would be enough for this serial liar? That he would willingly acquiesce to the laws of the nation after a brief check-and-balance holiday?

But proclaiming “Dictator for a Day” is not the worst of it

The most disconcerting thing about the announcement of “Dictator for a Day” is the fact that the audience cheered. Heartily. These moronic MAGAs have no concept of the reasons for the American Revolution or the workings of the Constitution and are emphatically in favor of establishing a dictatorship.

So for all the followers and endorsers of the “Man Who Would Be King,” I beseech you to read the Bible you say you follow as your holy book.

Samuel told all the words of the LORD to the people who were asking him for a king. He said, “This is what the king who will reign over you will do:

He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots.

Some he will assign to be commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and others to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and still others to make weapons of war and equipment for his chariots.

He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers.

He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants.

He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants.

Your menservants and maidservants and the best of your cattle and donkeys he will take for his own use.

He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves.

When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, and the LORD will not answer you in that day.”

But the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We want a king over us. Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles.”

When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the LORD. The LORD answered, “Listen to them and give them a king.”

And perhaps the remainder of the Lord’s quote did not make it into print.

“Don’t let them say I didn’t warn them.”
