Things I Don’t Understand
Chapter 1,073
Agent Orange has been elected twice, both times running against women, one a Black woman. So why should he be against D.E.I. hires? They obviously don’t get people jobs.
Women are not a minority group. We make up 51% of the population of this country. Why, then, are we D.E.I. hires? Diversity, Equality, Inclusion. We are diverse, we are as equal to each other as men are, and we are included in every phase of every human being’s life. “The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.” Who the hell ever came up with that idea? Maybe we should rock that cradle a little harder.
There is an idea floating around Congress that people should not be allowed to vote whose names on the voter registration form don’t match their names on their birth certificates. Does this sound strangely aimed at one gender? Except my oldest grandson changed his name to his mother’s maiden name. Will he not be able to vote? Will he even be asked?
I am not a business person; I made my living teaching English grammar and literature at various community colleges. But I remember my father talking at the dinner table when I was in high school. He said membership at the YMCA (that’s where he worked, and Agent Orange has ruined that song for me forever) was down, so they would have to increase the membership fees. That made no sense to me. Lower the fees or have a sale month. If people couldn’t afford to join at the current rate, what made him think more people could join if the fees were higher?
(My father was in the Navy, so Agent Orange has ruined that song for me, too. Damn it.)
So I am not a business person, but it has always bothered me that when companies want to improve “efficiency,” they go right to the bottom and fire the workers who actually do the work. If they want to cut costs, how many workers do they have to lay off to equal the amount that would be saved by letting just one vice president and his staff go? It seems to me that production will go down if they lay off workers. How much production would go down with the loss of one vice president and his staff?
Obviously, I have no head for business, because if I really wanted to cut waste and save money in our government, I would start at the top, not the bottom. How much Medicaid money would be available if we stopped corporate welfare? All those subsidies to Big Pharma and Big Oil go to companies that make 800% profit. Do they need our tax money? How about corporations that have shipped all their factories to countries where they have to pay workers less but kept one office in the U.S., so they can call themselves “American” companies and get subsidies from us tax payers?
I know I know nothing about business, but the figures I saw were that for every $1 that goes to public welfare, $2 goes to corporate welfare. How about we switch that, or, better yet, get rid of corporate welfare altogether? Or at least start cutting at the top.
And since the Walking Wallet is building his new Tesla factory in China, why doesn’t China give him grants instead of us? Why does he get grants from anyone? Can’t he pay for his own stuff? I’m told he’s the richest man on the planet. Why are we paying him? Why doesn’t he pay us for the roads we build and his litter that we educate and the truckers that move his stuff?
How many more millions do we have to pay for his rockets that blow up and cars that blow up and self-driving cars that stop for no reason and cause accidents? To the best of my knowledge, not a single plane has had to be rerouted to avoid anything a civil servant has blown up. But maybe I don’t read the right news.
And probably the biggest thing I don’t understand is why veterans (suckers and losers), women (good for one thing if they’re good looking enough), black and brown people (not wanted), struggling working people (worthless and stupid), or anyone else who isn’t white, male, rich, and “Christian” voted for this idiot and his moron sidekick.
For those who voted for this imbecile (twice or three times), I hope you enjoy what you’re getting. And thank you so much for dragging the rest of us down with you. We really appreciate it. And if you believe that, I have a Tesla product for you. May it burst into flames.
