FIRST AMENDMENT COMEDIC DISCUSSION
“Tonight we are all Jimmy Kimmel” — Stephen Colbert
The sounds of silence in late-night TV
Thursday night on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the Emmy winning Colbert came out swinging in support of his friend Jimmy Kimmel, and the First Amendment of the United States of America.
As Colbert has settled into the reality that his show will no longer exist in June due to CBS/Paramount’s cancellation, and now the cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel Live, ending his ABC late-night show immediately, the punches flew.
“If ABC thinks this is gonna satisfy the regime, they are woefully naïve. Jimmy, I stand with you and your staff 100 percent.” He holds up his Emmy statue. “And also couldn’t you at least let me enjoy this for one week? Come on.”
He had a nice little tribute to the tune of Disney’s “Be our Guest” as the candelabra sang:
“Shut your trap. Shut your trap.
We’re warning you to cut the crap.
The leader’s skin is thinner than a sheet of plastic wrap.
The word, have you heard, kissing asses was preferred.
Don’t insult our great dictator or he’ll hit you with this turd.
