Stop and look at what you are doing right now: Perhaps even without really noticing you’re juggling diverse attention-grabbing stimuli while trying to complete a simple task (reading this article) maybe you are checking your Whatsapp messages, reading your inbox, listening to music, checking tweets, hearing your coworkers fight, reminding yourself about that project that’s near its due date, thinking about your next meal, daydreaming about your next vacation, trying to pay attention to another impromptu meeting and more at the same time.

We’re ambitious creatures. Trying to place our attention into diverse things in the hopes of being able to achieve successful results in all of them simultaneously.

However it’s pretty important that whenever you feel immersed in a pool of random tasks you remind yourself the real reason as to why you’re even doing something. Anything at all. Since there’s always a purpose. And perhaps it’s not one you created, it could be that it’s what your company is trying to achieve; or some Marketer trying to make you buy a product; or some friend trying to convince you to do something for them; or what someone else (who did sit to think about this) wanted you to accomplish in order for them to reach specific objectives.

And what about your purpose? Do you know why you are doing whatever it is you are doing at this moment? Is it clear for you why is that project important? Or why do you need to finish X thing before a certain due date? Or why is your company trying to re-estructure your organization? Or why did they bring him/her to work with you? Or why is he/she your new boss?

There’s always a bigger goal in mind. That’s how we move. That’s how we think. That’s how we plan. That’s how we act. That’s how businesses are created and that’s how they keep existing.

If you don’t know why you’re doing something, well, it’s not the end of the world. You can always stop, think about it and change things if you don’t agree with something. And if you don’t want to do that? Well, nothing major neither, however rest assured that someone else will have a goal in mind and perhaps you might end up just being a consequence of their decisions. So if that scenario is OK for you, then go on my friend, keep on doing exactly what you were doing before the last paragraphs reached your sight.
