As a Product Owner, I want a new website!

Since Christiaan and I started The Liberators at the beginning of this year, we immediately stepped into a rollercoaster. Although I’m definitely not a fan of rollercoasters I highly enjoyed this one! Besides taking care of all the legal & financial stuff, we launched the PSM II course with Scrum.org and set up the Dutch user group for Liberating Structures.

We also claimed the domain-name “theliberators.com”. Shortly afterward Christiaan builds a version that re-directs to our Medium blog, training & workshops and it even contains an “I need help” button: awesome!

Most importantly, we added the message:

“New site coming soon.”

Luckily “soon” is relative… 6 months afterward is still soon right? :)

A couple of months ago we blocked a week in October with the idea “let’s build a website that week”. Because it’s almost October we thought it might be a good idea to share our ideas with Fonkel. The web agency that’s going to help us design and build the site.

I won’t bore you with the details, but would like to share some statements we’ve made yesterday in our meetup with Fonkel:

How difficult can it be? What we have in mind is really quite simple…

We don’t need a Scrum Master

That expensive?! (something I shouted to Christiaan afterwards…)

Luckily we could laugh about it… (although I really think it’s not difficult or complex what we want…)

The Big Plan

So yesterday we created The Big Plan!

  • I’m going to be the Product Owner. I already feel sorry for the developers…
  • Christiaan will (try to) become the ideal cross-functional team member
  • Fonkel will complete our Scrum Team with other design & develop skills
  • As the Product Owner I want something in production at the end of day 1 (and days 2, 3, 4, and 5) that adds value to my stakeholders. I’m going to figure out the details in the upcoming weeks.
  • Based on a compelling vision that I’m going to practice in the mirror every day, we’ll create the Product Backlog in the upcoming period.

As you might expect from us, we’ll be transparent about this endeavor as well. We’ll share short stories and video’s about our progress. This will become the ultimate success story people will still talk about the upcoming decades! It’s going to be awesome! Failure isn’t an option (feel the pressure, my precious developers…:))
