The world is disrupted, and sometimes the only thing we can do is re-centre.

Within International Development there has recently been a lot of interest in Masters and how to improve your chances of getting in / getting a new job / progressing. Further study is a very personal thing and everyone’s reasons for doing it are different but Devex posted an interesting article about if a masters degree is right for you.

Although lockdown may be easing (albeit in a very confusing way in the UK), music venues will still be closed. But that doesn’t mean you can’t keep exploring. Christian Scott, also known as Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah is a two-time Edison Award winning and Grammy Award nominated trumpeter, composer and producer. Heralded by JazzTimes Magazine as “Jazz’s young style God”, you can watch / listen to some evocative pieces from his The Centennial Trilogy.

Have you noticed how much waste you’ve been producing? how much stuff you own that you’ve now decided to either a)throwaway or b) give to charity? how about how much nicer streets have been without traffic? True, our economies are grinding to a halt, but it also prompts one to think how much of it is based on consumption. I stumbled upon the circular economy which really got me thinking about how we are being conditioned to think about things in a certain way. The Circular Economy is about how we can design out waste and pollution, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems. The Ellen MacArthur foundation has some fantastic resources if you want to find out more, including links to free courses such as an Introduction to the Circular Economy. There are also case studies and examples of circular businesses proving that these models can actually work. And if you’re looking for some real, everyday options why not explore some of these;

  • Mudjeans where you can lease your jeans,
  • Allplants for plant-based meals cooked by chefs and delivered straight to your door;
  • Byrotation where you can rent out your wardrobe rather than throw it out
  • Thrift lets you still donate your clothes to charity, but save yourself time and charities money by doing it online.
  • Cycling is back in fashion but your kids will grow out of their bikes faster than the weather changes in the UK, so why not subscribe to The Bike Club instead
  • How many plastic bottles for home care products do you throw out? With Splosh you buy the bottle once and have the refills delivered to your home.
