How To Prioritize When You’re Overwhelmed

I have so many plans and projects I’m working on at the moment.

Sometimes it is too much for my brain to keep up with everything I do, including my (voluntary) work.

Planning can be very hard, especially when you are not good at. I believe you can learn how to plan your tasks. It can be very overwhelming when you need to do what you have to do first. It can be a very challenging task to prioritize everything that has to get it done. You rather work on what you know you can do instead of being busy with what has to be done.

There are so many productivity tools out there to get productive, but also there are tools for getting everything done you have to do? Yes, there are things and tools for that.

  1. Make a list for every project you’re working on.
  2. Make a timeline for each project
  3. Add on the timeline when each (sub)task from number 3 must be finished and how long you need for it
  4. Categorize everything from each project into one list
  5. Plan everything into a special calendar

Make a list for every project you’re working on

For me, it works when I make a list with each task from every project I’m working on and which needs more priority. It helps me to stay focused on the major things.

Make a timeline for each project

Each project needs a timeline. Then you know when you have to finish which tasks. This is handy when you have to prioritize other things in life too. Sometimes it will be difficult when you have to prioritize all the tasks.

Add on the timeline when each (sub)task from number 3 must be finished and how long you need for it

You must add when each (sub)task have to be finished and how long you need for each one of them. Then you can count with that during your planning.

Categorize everything from each project into one list

When you made that timeline, you have to — in order of the timeline — categorize every (sub)task from your projects, so you know when you have to get done everything. When you see how this makes progress, you know you have accomplished your job.

Plan everything into a special calendar

It doesn’t matter what kind of planner or calendar you use, but use one that fits with you and you can plan everything from your timeline into that calendar. I use a calendar where I can plan not only work but also personal projects.
