I had goals in my youth that may still come to pass but for now are pipe dreams. Goals of career and family that as the years wore on had to be changed, adjusted and even axed. I could’ve taken the routes of safety and security but I wanted to tempt fate.

I didn’t win, but I took some lumps and some lessons.

Whenever one says one feels defeated in life it is because life didn’t facilitate the achievement of one’s goals. Despite one’s best efforts, increasing knowledge and limited resources, it couldn’t be done.

The issue with thinking in this way is that one makes it seem that life said, “no” to the dreamer as if it is completely separate from the dreamer with a completely different agenda. Another way of looking at this is that life and the dreamer ultimately have the same goal, but with different plans on how to get there and different metrics on how to gauge success.

We could say the goal both life and the individual share is peace of mind or happiness. To have these is to have success. But if the individual believes that these are achieved through getting worldly renown, a lot of money and power, it may be in for a stark realization when life blocks these avenues in favor of psychological help, improving relationships and spiritual growth.
