Today must be BIG word day! After reading a piece on Medium, I wrote in the comments, “Thanks for the edifying article.”

Edifying? Who says edifying? I looked it up in my Funk and Wagnells— stop laughing it’s a real dictionary — and it was the precise word I needed for what I wanted to say. Edifying me on edification.

I continued with my pre-dawn ritual of reading and commenting on a minimum of three Medium submissions as I drank my one allotted cup of morning coffee (oh, such a sad aging story I’ll tell at a later date). When I found myself typing, “Your piece is evocative of that line of storytelling.”

Evocative? Who uses words like evocative? Yes, I looked it up, this time in my American Heritage Dictionary, a fat heavy book full of highlighted words I felt compelled to learn. “Evocative: Tending to or having the power to evoke.” Not helpful AHD-not…
