Farewell 2015 (Girls)

By Sharon Shridhar, Senior Reporter

The Farewell of Grade 12 is something that is looked forward to by every 12th grader. At the same time, it marks the end of school life and a new start- our first steps into the world outside. The farewell this year, which was held on 16th December 2015, was titled ‘IHS Thumakda’ and it was based on the theme of Bollywood. Bollywood does not just represent the Indian film industry but also represents progress and achievement of things that might have seemed impossible. Though its films are mostly fanatical, it brings forward a spirit of hope and the determination to reach for the skies with all you have. Likewise the motive behind IHS Thumakda was not just to celebrate the successful completion of the seniors’ schooling, but also to celebrate their progress and achievement in life and to encourage them to reach for the skies in their future endeavours.

The dress code for the event was Indian Ethnic wear- A classic choice and in accordance with the theme, the young ladies of grade 12 arrived at school on Wednesday morning, 7 am, all wearing gorgeous sarees and salwars and beautiful ornaments to match their stunning outfits. Their confidence and maturity was clearly seen in the way they carried themselves throughout the day. The farewell was hosted by the 11th graders and they arrived wearing gorgeous salwars, abiding by the dress code of the event. The girls took time to adore and complement each other’s outfits and were immensely happy.

The 11th graders distributed cakes, cupcakes and other sweet treats to their respective senior classes and in return their seniors gave each of them a souvenir-a custom-made, beautiful blue-green diary with each girl’s name printed on it titled-‘So that you won’t forget us’. On its back cover were printed some of the things that the seniors would cherish and miss when they will leave our school!

After this was the ‘Student of the Year’ event where ten brilliant girls competed for the coveted title and trophy that came along with it. Each girl was told to express her thoughts on the topic ‘I Believe’ and was judged by a panel of esteemed teachers. The students also had to vote for the person whom they felt was the best. Thus, by the order of the highest votes and points rewarded by the judges, the winner of this grand title was Mahima Kochar of 12 Com A, followed by runner up Theres Sudeep of 12 Arts A.

After this event was a short break of 15 minutes during which the girls refreshed themselves and snacked on treats and geared up for the next and final and the most interesting event-The DJ Dance.

The 11th graders had invited a professional DJ to crank up some tunes for the party. All of us danced to those peppy numbers and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was an amazing experience for the 12th graders and also for the 11th graders and from the smiles on our seniors’ faces we could tell how grateful they are for the grand farewell we gave them. It was truly a day to remember!
