House Day 2015

By Divya Jyothi, Senior Reporter

Every school needs a day dedicated to the four Houses that have come to represent the student body in innumerable ways. It is when the students close ranks and set their eyes on gaining house points and eventually the House Cup. The girls of Grade 11 and 12 did just that on their House Day held on 6 December 2015, creating and enjoying a perfect blend of teamwork, talent and creativity.

Hosted by the lively and exuberant Chandni Jeswani of Grade 11, the programme comprised of three major segments:

1. Stand Up Comedy, where the participants tickled the audience’ funny bone by enacting scenes from typical experiences. Ruby House’s performance on the experience of a middle class family going out to dine was commendable.

2. Fashion Show — Aspiring models or just zealous fashionistas also strutted the stage in costumes themed ‘Music’, ‘Anime’, ‘Winter’ and such. It was also a tacit opportunity to signify awe of cultural icons like Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.

Another contest was held for potential designers who had to revamp a shirt and showcase it within the time limit. The results? Simply breath-taking.

3. Ad Mad, which required the students to display their skills in advertising on stage.

Now, it wouldn’t be complete if the fun was limited to the students, would it? That is exactly why the members of the Student Council held a couple of activities for the teachers. The teachers took part (after a little encouragement) in activities which put their skills of team work and acting prowess to the test.

Valanka Noronha, a student of Grade 10, needed funds for her life-threatening kidney ailment so the students showed their support by collecting funds. The Student Council turned the whole process into an exciting game and later revealed that a significant amount was raised.

Left: Students rush to contribute to the cause | Right: A note of thanks — doesn’t Valanka’s smile say it all?

Father Ignesius from Bareilly was kind enough to grace the girls with his presence as chief guest for the day. After showering his blessings on Valanka for her well-being, he proceeded to enlighten the students with a speech. Amongst his words were-

Things change, we all grow but your growth must be fixed on your goals in this school.’

“ We are yellow

We are strong

Let’s all scream

And shout our song

Go Topaz!”

That was just a fragment of the enthusiasm displayed by the cheerleaders of the Topaz house, who accordingly earned the title of ‘Best Cheerleaders’ amongst the four cheerleading groups belonging to the four houses. These girls no doubt had a pivotal role in upholding the ‘house spirit’, paired with their eye-catching costumes and sparkly props.

Oh, and of course each house had a House Mascot who worked up a good laugh when the general mood wasn’t very jovial.

You don’t mess with us! The mascots take center stage!

The audience also got in on a piece of the action as the show closed with a quiz which quite appropriately included topics like ‘Popular TV Shows’ and books.

The House Cup was bagged by none other than the Emerald House — they gave the judges a good time and accumulated the maximum number of house points in the course of the year. Ruby and Sapphire tied in at second place. Topaz was not far behind and proved to be tough cookies.
