The National Park Service is celebrating 101 years. Here are our favorite adventures.
While NPS has many issues to sort out, what they are preserving deserves recognition

The National Park Service celebrated its centennial last year, and today, it turns 101.
The Interior Department, which oversees the Park Service, has experienced some serious growing pains in the past few years. Sexual harassment cases at Yosemite National Park, Yellowstone National Park and Canaveral National Seashore have prompted angry congressional hearings. The agency has said it is setting up a confidential hotline for victims and witnesses to report misconduct, but it continues to face questions about how it handles complaints, and what, if anything, happens to employees who are accused of sexual misconduct.
Most recently, investigators found that a senior law enforcement official at Interior had sexually harassed six women who worked for him. The official, Tim K. Lynn, retired in April without facing any disciplinary action.
On his first day in office in March, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke set a zero-tolerance policy for sexual misconduct. Zinke is also in the midst of reviewing which national monuments could lose their designation.
So while it’s clear that the Interior Department — and the Park Service — have many issues to sort out, what they are preserving deserves recognition.
