There’s no doubt that breakups can hurt like hell. Even if there is no love left, you get so used to the other person, that their is like a void which feels empty and cold. Here are the things that hurt the most after a break up.
1. Going to places you visited together.
Revisiting old haunts can bring old memories flooding back, and if it’s a recent break-up, it can be really painful to eat at restaurants you frequented with your significant other or visit other places that were old favorites, even if you go with friends.
2. Friends asking about the relationship.
When friends casually or unknowingly ask you about what’s going on with your relationship, it can be really hurtful sometimes. Not only is it embarrassing to accept that your relationship ended, but it can also reopen your wounds and hurt a lot.
3. Moving out.
If a live-in relationship breaks up, shifting your things out of the home you once lived in together, or seeing your partner move out can be really painful.
4. Going on a date with another person.
If you start dating too soon after a break-up, there are chances that everything you with the new person could remind you of your ex. Dining at a table for two, watching a movie together, cuddling- these things can really bring back every memory of your ex with a sharp pang of pain.
5. Seeing happy couples everywhere.
When you hang out with friends who are all paired-up, or see random couples all over the place, not only can it cause all your pain to come back with a vengeance, it can also bring about a sense of inadequacy and make you feel all alone in the world. Don’t despair; try and move on. Being alone is not bad at all.
6. Going for a movie alone.
When you watch a movie alone, or with friends and family, it can be reminder of all the movies you watched together with your significant other, hand-in-hand, your head on his shoulder. All the songs and romance in movies just make the pain worse.
7. Seeing pictures of your ex on Facebook.
We live in an era of social media, where it is very hard to avoid or ignore someone completely. New pictures of your ex are bound to show up in your newsfeed, some of them may be of him/her looking happy, or with a person of the opposite sex. This can be very painful.
8. Valentine’s day.
Valentine’s day is hell-on-earth for singles or people who have recently broken up. All the romance and happy couples around just serve to make you feel utterly sad and lonely.
9. Returning gifts or letters.
When you go over to your significant other’s to return belongings, or he comes over to your place, it can be hurtful. Goodbyes and gift-returnings are always sad. They are a sad reminder of what is left of a once-beautiful relationship.
10. Running into them somewhere.
If you happen to spot your ex or run into him/her while shopping, partying, eating out, not only is the encounter awkward, but it can make you feel really bad afterwards. Specially if he/she happens to have a date along.
You might be feeling terrible right now- unattractive, alone and rejected, but there is always a silver lining. The upside to getting out of a bad relationship is that it frees you up to date other people who might be better suited to you. If you’re in despair now, don’t worry- things will get better!
