Every day is different. Today you may have been fast and electric. But tomorrow you might lose your momentum. In an uncertain life like this, it’s important to remind ourselves of our abilities — so that we don’t slow down and stagnate.

Movies through their inspiring music, dialogues and storytelling, can help us do that instantly. Here are 8speeches from Hollywood movies that can charge you up for the week ahead.

Independence Day

No one can fight without motivation. President Whitmore knew this and through his speech inspired the pilots to fight for their independence. The battle against the aliens took a new turn at this juncture in the movie.

Gladiator

You can’t survive if you fight alone. Former Roman General Maximus knew this timeless principle about victory. While the blood-thirsty crowd awaited Maximus and his team to be brutally killed in the battleground, he through his speech instilled a jolt of power into his team to fight and win together.

Braveheart

Fear will ultimately push you down to live a life without dignity. Leader of the rebel Scots, William Wallace didn’t want this to happen to his people. He wanted them to overcome their fears, fight against slavery and be free. He achieved that through his inspiring speech.

Pursuit of Happyness

People burden their loved ones with their own tragic fears. That’s why most people stop dreaming big when they face problems — they get discouraged by those who’ve failed. Chris in this scene told his son to never give up on his dreams, even if his dad asked him to.

Invictus

Not all speeches need to be lengthy to spark inspiration, if it’s short, sharp and powerful enough, it can still have the same impact; sometimes better even. In this scene, South African Rugby Captain François Pienaar urged his team to fight for victory — and instantly they roared with life.

Good Will Hunting

When a true friend gives you honest advice, you just shut up and listen. In this scene Chuckie pushes his friend Will Hunting to escape from his unworthy lifestyle, move up to his abilities and live a life that he deserves.

Wolf of Wall Street

There’s thrill, intensity, insanity and horsepower in Jordan Belfort’s speech where he motivates his employees to take on the world with their work. There are only 2 possibilities if we ever listened to a speech like this in real life — either we’ll change ourselves, or we’ll change the world.

Detachment

Disappointed and angry because of children’s inability to understand the violent world, the high school teacher Henry Barthes inspires his students to break free from their conditioned belief systems to live a meaningful life.
