How To Bridge Between Blockchains In A Few Clicks

Interoperability is core to the DAPP Network, and bridging season is well on its way. The latest episode has tremendous ramifications for the entire DAPP Network community.
But before we jump straight in, let’s recap the storyline until this point:
- In the pilot episode, DAPP Service Providers (DSPs) came together at the Bridge Activation Party to set the code and infrastructure requirements for the bridge.
- As the bridge evolved, developers dove into the bridge architecture in the Cross-Chain Bridge Expert’s Guide. Community-generated ideas relating to the economic models of the bridge were also curated.
- Many projects set off to build their own bridges. For example, Yup recently harnessed the DAPP Network’s cross-chain bridge tech to bridge their protocol to Ethereum and enable a unique dual-chain liquidity mining mechanism. DAPP Accounts DAO are also well on their way to building a USDC bridge to Ethereum.
- There’s also a bug bounty available for developers who have what it takes to crack the bridge code for vulnerabilities, flaws, and imperfections.

General-Purpose Bridging — In An Instant
Bridges are blossoming on blockchains. As more smart contract platforms emerge on the scene, they are realizing that without a link to existing liquidity their project faces a steep hill to success. However, it feels redundant that each new blockchain-to-blockchain connection requires its own ad-hoc solution.
The blockchain-agnostic nature of DAPP Network cross-chain bridges could allow developers to overcome this hurdle:
- Any two chains could be candidates for an EdgeDSP connection.
- That connection can be on-demand or permanent, meaning EdgeDSPs can either facilitate long-term bridges or simply establish a cross-chain connection for a single transaction.
- It can even be utilized to connect smart contracts to each other directly, allowing for contract execution across chains. Developers could link between contracts on different chains and call those contracts seamlessly as part of multi-chain applications.
- In addition, the capabilities of EdgeDSPs make many-to-many connections possible, something that was previously unthinkable. For example, a contract on Ethereum could be called to send tokens from a Solana account to a Polkadot account.
One use-case with the potential for widespread appeal involves the idea of ‘universal stablecoins.’ Tether, USDC, DAI and other stablecoins keep reappearing on different chains, yet moving them in between chains remains a complex procedure, if at all possible. EdgeDSP-powered bridges could allow for stablecoins to be instantaneously swapped and utilized in DeFi applications on any participating chain.

What Are EdgeDSPs?
DAPP Service Providers (DSPs) sit at the heart of the DAPP Network. In the context of the bridge, DSPs provide the services that allow it to operate and can put collateral towards boosting the integrity of bridges. While anyone can run the services that underpin cross-chain bridges, it takes a unique individual or organization to provide the financial backbone and reputation of bridges.
Even though becoming a DSP is open to anyone, the technical expertise and infrastructure requirements involved in its operation creates a barrier to entry for many potential DSPs. That barrier is slashed thanks to EdgeDSP technology, which can run DSP software in a browser. You’ll potentially open a tab, navigate to the Edge and you’re a DSP!
EdgeDSP is based on cutting-edge WASM technology which allows any arbitrary code to compile and run, even from within a browser.
