Best Made Co. Pencils

The world of pencils is one of endless choice. For most, pencils are an item of non-thought, they're simply bought in bulk packs, often mechanical. An apt comparison is to wine as one doesn't know what it can be before they spend some money on the good stuff. Proving this, Best Made Co. stays true to their name and message with their pencils, a simple and high quality tool.

Fresh from the pack.

The pencils are available in sets of three with a purchase of three Famous Red notebooks. Made from a delightfully aromatic cedar, the raw and unfinished wood begins as a light blonde before developing a darker patina like a well worn leather.

Darkening with use, the wood also feels smoother.

Aside from a few black ink-stamps, the round barrel is plain, lending a bare bones, rustic aesthetic that’s present throughout the Best Made Co. product line. Capping it off is a standard ferrule and a black eraser which works as good as any.

Now it’s important to talk about the truly important facts within every pencil: the core. On the side the pencil is marked as a No. 2 HB pencil, however once the point actually comes to paper, a different story is told. The lead of a Best Made pencil feels like a small step below the Blackwing 602 in smoothness. In darkness the Blackwing is superior but it’s still something to be proud of and I, for one, am happy that I’ve found another pencil I like enough to carry along my Blackwings.

Needless to say I’m a fan.
