We are looking for storytellers that are curious about this life and beyond. We believe that we are part of a larger community while being as unique as our universe. We want to publish work that is inspired, and we especially want to publish inspired work by those who are underrepresented within the worlds of magical realism, speculative fiction or non-fiction, sci-fi, gothic and the in-between, so yeah hybrid is welcome.

More on underrepresentation found here.

How to Submit:

New to the Lit Guide

  1. Do familiarize yourself with Medium if you’re new to it. That includes uploading a picture to your profile and a bio line. More help here.
  2. Do send a link to your draft, and your Medium username to Natasha Herring, natasha.herring@gmail.com with the subject — Submission.
  3. Do use tags that designate the genre and content in your draft. You want readers to find you.
  4. Do have a featured image either above or below and in-between the headline that adds to your work rather than take away from it. Always indicate the source of the photo even if the source is you. If it’s not you, get permission or use royalty free images but we prefer your own created image.
  5. Do revise and edit before submission. Get someone with a set of fresh eyes to review your piece before hitting that submit button.
  6. Do add to publication once you have done the above, so that we may review for submission. Video here to help.
  7. Do be creative but always have structure. We don’t want your readers to float off the page at least unintentionally. Experimentation should be intentional.
  8. Don’t take yourself too seriously. While we do appreciate art and the time taken to create it, it is our belief that art is created to share with the public. In other words, don’t let perfection stand in the way of good. A paraphrase of the Voltaire, Confucius and Aristotle quote.

Current Writer for The Lit Guide

Congratulations this has gotten much simpler. Once you have created your story draft just add to publication. Video reminder here.

Note: This is up to you but if you’d like to make some doughnuts then submit Medium member-only (gated paywall) pieces. This ensures that you get paid for your writing and you reach more readers via Medium topics. Don’t worry those who are not paid members get three free reads monthly and once you are published you get a friend link for free access to share your work.

Medium’s Do Nots

Do not distribute misinformation, stories with clickbait headlines, stories that are primarily marketing a product or service, stories that use photos that the author doesn’t have the rights to use, or stories with excessive typos and errors.

Reading Period

The next reading period is in November for the Winter Solstice Issue. We will have our first open submissions.
