Author Interview: Bart Baker
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I’ve been writing since I was a kid. I’ve always loved storytelling. But it never occurred to me that it could be a career. I come from a true working-class background, we were afforded the luxury of thinking about careers, we needed to get jobs, something stable, something secure. It wasn’t until college when I toyed with the idea of being able to make a living as a writer. And when I told I told my folks my plan to head to Los Angeles and become a writer (and an actor…another story…) my mom was worried but my dad, who was much, much more of a free spirit, was totally supportive.How long does it take you to write a book?
The first book, HONEYMOON WITH HARRY, took me three months. But I didn’t have children then, I wasn’t working on a screenplay, I was solely focused on writing my first novel. Since then, depending on what is happening in life, and if I’m getting screenwriting work, they take about a year, sometimes more. I make more from my screenwriting, so having kids and a house and lots of bills, I go where the money is.What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?
I am more of a morning person. So, through the school year, I’m up at 4:45 to get things done before I have to get the boys up for school. Once they are gone, I go to the gym, either lift or swim (former competitive swimmer, former…
