Sea turtles are unique to me. They are my spirit animal. They are resilient and amazing.

The sea turtles outlived the dinosaurs, which is very interesting. Sea Turtles lay their eggs on the beaches and then return to sea. Can you imagine how hard that would be to leave your babies behind, not knowing if they will survive or not?

She lays around 100 eggs that do not hatch for about 60 days. The sand determines the sex of the babies. Warm sand determines girls, and cooler sand determines boys. That is so cool and very interesting.

I think it is also pretty interesting that the babies make their way back to the ocean by following the reflection of the moon and stars over the water along with the slope of the beach.

Even though land turtles can draw their head into the shell, sea turtles can’t. So, that leaves them vulnerable to predators. They have their shell for protection, as well as their scaly tough skin. When frightened, they can swim up to 22 mph. That is fast, as they usually swim around five mph. I never imagined sea turtles could move that fast.

Sea turtles have no teeth, but their jaws have beaks that help them eat. They have no ears, but they have eardrums and great hearing, and they hear best at low frequencies…
