  1. Your parents are the first people you should be able to forgive; you must accept their flaws. I have come to learn that there are crimes committed by family members that cannot be forgiven; you have to forgive them for every apparent wrong as well as any cruel or nasty deed. Realizing that your parents did the best they could with the knowledge they had at the time, you must rise above this and let them go.
  2. The next person you must forgive is everyone else — every single individual who has ever wounded or deceived you, regardless of the circumstances. Refusing to provide forgiveness to even one individual might significantly damage or even eliminate your chances of success in the future.
  3. Any groups, institutions, nations, or religions with whom you may have become resentful or bitter are the third person you must forgive.
  4. The fourth — and probably most significant — and hardest person to forgive is yourself. Self-forgiveness is the best present you can offer yourself. It is the best thing you could possibly do for the environment, your family, and yourself.
