How Long Does Your Story Survive on Medium
Did You Notice What Happens After You Hit the ‘Publish’ Button?
Bin Jiang once mentioned during a contest he organised that most stories receive 80–90% of their engagement within 24 hours of being published.
Using these statistics, he set some rules for his Medium contest.
This was an eye-opener for me because I had never noticed if the same applied to my stories.
Since then, I have been analyzing my profile from time to time, and here’s my verdict:
On my profile, stories receive 90% of their engagement within 48 hours of being published.
If I publish another story within 24 hours of the previous one, the engagement drops a little.
Therefore, for 48 hours, both organic and profile visits engage with my newly published stories.
Schedule —Posting every other day works better for me than posting daily.
Time — As for timing, nighttime works better for me since my community consists mostly of non-Indians who are active during my nighttime.
