Bhutan, one of the South Asian countries, has a policy according to which country’s teachers will get more earning than civil servants of similar grades. Policy’s reference is present in Bhutan’s 12th Five Year Plan (2018-2023).

The commission’s objective to get desired national outcomes through education begins with the quote, “making teaching a profession of choice”. The ultimate purpose is to achieve human development objectives.

It is evident that, if teachers have good status and live life tension-free, they will provide their students valuable knowledge in all pursuits. It is a good initiative by Bhutan. According to me, other countries should also follow it.

Other countries can also implement professional standards for teachers (PST) to evaluate teachers’ performance. Bhutan introduced PST in 2019 to ensure teacher ecosystem that sustains knowledge, care, and lifelong learners.

There are 7 standards of Bhutan’s PST. It includes: diversity of learners, learning environment, pedagogical knowledge, planning and teaching, assessment and reporting, personal growth, and professional engagement.

To conclude, teachers play a crucial role in nation building. They make or break nations. If they are remunerated at a higher place, teachers in return give valuable knowledge and status to their students, who are the major nation builders.
