No One Shares Their Failures, They All Talk About Their Successes

I Want to Change the Paradigm and Share My Failures.

If you’ve used LinkedIn, you might relate to what I’m saying.

Everyone shares their successes on social media, but hardly anyone shares their failures. This puts too much pressure on others who are on their journey to achieve similar goals.

I once found myself in that position, and I still am.

I attended a Tier 3 college and aimed to kickstart my career with what we called ‘Dream Companies’ — the highest-paying firms that visited our campus for recruitment. Dell was my primary target.

But you know what I will say next — ‘life happens’.

Sometimes, even if you believe you deserve something, you might not achieve it because perhaps there’s a different plan for you.

I joined a service-based organization to eventually transition into a product-based company and then aim for FAANG or a similar organization.

I have always been determined to keep moving forward without losing sight of my goals. In my view, continuous growth should be the only constant in one’s career.

However, I must admit, that this journey has never been easy.

I transitioned to a product-based organization, OLX Group. Eventually, with more hops, I landed a position at Microsoft, where I currently work as a Software Engineer II. However, the journey was incredibly challenging.

During this time, I often observed others achieving significant milestones on LinkedIn, which sometimes demotivated me. I struggled with wanting to achieve everything quickly, and scrolling through LinkedIn too often left me feeling disappointed in myself.

Even now, I sometimes experience this feeling because there will always be people who have achieved what you dream of.

I know there are many others out there who feel the same.

That’s why I wanted to share my journey of failures.

I attended a Tier 3 college because I couldn’t crack NITs and IITs. At that time, in my school, I lacked awareness and focus.

Despite being a college topper, I started my career with a lower salary than expected in a mid-sized service-based organization.

However, I didn’t give up. I have acquired MOST of my technical knowledge from my first company and I successfully transitioned to a product-based organization with the right guidance and steps.

Subsequently, I moved to another company for a better project, but it turned out to be a misjudgment, leading to another switch.

Now, I am at Microsoft, where I am happy and content. I plan to stay here as long as I don’t face any significant issues that might prompt me to move again.

Throughout my career, I haven’t always been the top performer in every project, but I have consistently learned and progressed — a principle I still uphold and always will.

I often receive negative feedback, but it doesn’t hold me back. I acknowledge it, reflect on my mistakes, learn from constructive criticism, and move ahead.

That’s life — full of ups and downs!

Amongst these hops, I’ve faced rejection from a wide range of companies including Google, Adobe, Salesforce, IBM, Accenture, Atlassian, Zoom, Tata 1MG, MakeMyTrip, Agoda, Ixigo, Nykaa, and many more.

Despite being selected by some, I’ve experienced more rejections than acceptances. I take pride in every rejection because they’ve shaped who I am today.

While there are similar-aged people out there with higher salaries and better designations than mine, I embrace my journey and achievements. I continue to move forward — one step at a time.

Cheers! 🥂
