Being overly critical and demanding can be draining. If you focus solely on achieving perfection, scrutinizing every little detail to the point of losing sight of the bigger picture, it becomes impossible to see the positive, leading to a depleted mind and soul.

I remember discussing with a friend how this quest for perfection drives human progress. Like art and food critics, architects, and engineers who strive for excellence for the benefit of society, these professions come with a package of high standards. However, we both agreed that people can maintain high expectations at work while being more relaxed in their personal lives.

I can be a demanding editor online, supporting my writers and having a high-quality magazine. In day-to-day life, however, I am very easy to please. I have always given good reviews to books I’ve read online, with very few exceptions. I have watched movies that people said weren’t that “great” and enjoyed them because preferences are subjective. I have enjoyed listening to new albums from musicians, even though people criticized them for not being as “catchy” as they were in the past.
