ACTS OF KINDNESS
When Angel Gave All He Had
An unexpected encounter with an unlikely soul on the subway.
Living in New York comes with all sorts of difficulties. It does not matter if you are single, married, single with kids, or married with kids, navigating the chaos of the city comes with a toll.
The desperation of the day had set in for me, and with my two young children at my side, we had nowhere to rest our weary bodies after a long day. With little success in finding food or employment for myself and my children, I was feeling defeated by it all.
In a desperate attempt to find a safe place to be for myself and my children, we headed to the subway train so we could find a seat and just ride the train from one end of Manhattan to another. This would be my best effort in letting my children catch some sleep before the next adventure of this life came over the horizon.
I use the word adventure because that's what I have to call them for my kids, it's all about reframing and perspective, and it helps to be framed that way. Living a life in poverty and desperation is not what I had in mind for us, but here I am, doing the very best I can. We are happy together; even when it feels desperate, we will always have each other.
