Why I Was Forced to Say Yes to My Proposal

And Why I’m Still Not Engaged

This is the dramatic story of my proposal!

First of all, yes, I have been proposed to, and I said yes — but I am still not engaged. There are reasons why I was “forced” to say yes, and also why, even after saying yes, I still can’t be considered engaged. It’s complicated, and I’ll explain.

I am from India, specifically from a region where two souls first unite and get “Roka-fied” as the initial step, followed by an engagement and then a wedding.

The Roka Ceremony is a traditional pre-engagement event celebrated in India to officially announce a couple’s commitment in the presence of their families, friends, and loved ones.

It is after the Engagement Ceremony that the couple is officially considered engaged.

Proposals are not traditionally a trend in India; however, people have started incorporating them for their cute and heartfelt significance — and, of course, to make their partner feel special and to get an official answer.

I found the love of my life, and after some time, we decided to make it official in the presence of our families — that’s when we got Roka-fied.
