Welcome To The Longbow

From the first game by Hellwig, through Kriegspiel, Stevenson, and Little Wars; miniature wargaming has long and storied history. Since the end of the Second World War, the hobby has grown and evolved in many forms. The proliferation of companies producing quality miniatures and gaming systems, the rise of the friendly local game store, and the numerous clubs and competitions are a testament to the enduring appeal of games on the tabletop (or even sometimes on the floor). Whether in historical, fantasy, or science fiction settings, there are many possibilities.

Unlike video gaming, tabletop and miniature wargaming will never break in to the mainstream. But the communities that have formed around it are consistently growing and display as much potential and creativity as their digital counterparts. It is a rich culture built on a mix of history, fantasy, art, and sportsmanship. From the fields of Napoleonic Europe to the battlefields of Cadia, there are infinite worlds ready to explore. The Longbow has been founded to do just that.

Our aim is to report on the news, stories, and opinions from the many worlds of tabletop and miniature wargaming. We seek to represent and be a part of our community, to foster greater understanding of the crafts and games we love, and to be a force for good (or sometimes evil) within it. We aim to be a responsible and respectable source of journalism and expression that is not tainted by some of the more troublesome elements of our community.

Sometimes our work will take the form of reporting on the news of the day, sometimes we will dive in depth into the many aspects of the hobby, and sometimes we will share our own thoughts and those of the people in the community. But most of all we hope that by following our passion for the hobby, that we can earn your readership. We’ll see you on the tabletop.
