Christopher Ategeka has had an incredible life journey. He was born into extreme poverty in rural Uganda. His parents died before he was 10 years old leaving him and his four younger siblings to fend for themselves. But he was accepted into an orphanage and later adopted by an American family. He came to the US and graduated from Cal Berkeley with a degree in mechanical engineering.
Chris is now is an award-winning entrepreneur and engineer. He is the founder and CEO at UCOT, a company that has created a unique model to support and fund early stage start-ups creating solutions to unintended & willfully ignored consequences of technology. His conference, UCOT forum, creates a space to host authentic discussions around exponential technology development & usage that may not be serving humanity’s best interests.
Prior to UCOT, Chris founded Hourglass ventures an early stage fund that supports visionary entrepreneurs from the African continent who come from underprivileged backgrounds. He also founded Health Access Corps, a social enterprise that works to establish sustainable healthcare systems on the African continent.
He was most recently honored by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader.
Chris is now dedicating his life to battle the unintended consequences of technology. Because he believes that technology is evolving much more rapidly than humans understand, which can end poorly for us all.
On this episode, we discuss Chris’s journey to starting his first business, the start up scene in Africa, and the rapidly evolving tech landscape in the US. Chris shares his PIMP framework — Power Influence Money & Politics –on how important decisions are made across the globe and he explains how he believes large scale changes can be practically executed.
